The use of waterproof membrane in aquaculture Part 1

May 20,2022

In recent years, there have been more and more application examples of waterproof membranes in aquaculture and fisheries, especially since the government encourages private investment in the construction of fishery and electricity symbiosis, the use of waterproof membranes to build above-ground or buried fish ponds is also increasing. Not only can it reduce maintenance costs and stabilize water quality, but with the perfect surrounding facilities, maintenance is simple, and the catch is also relatively increased.

Buried pond

The buried type is used in various landscape ponds, ecological ponds and fish ponds. If the waterproof membrane is not used, the use efficiency of these ponds is relatively low. Because the soil or concrete under water will affect the water loss rate and quality. Therefore, the use of waterproof membrane as the first layer can solve the problem of excessive loss rate and maintain water quality.

Pre-made sink

Waterproof membranes can also be used on pre-made sinks, whether plastic or fiberglass sinks, waterproof membranes can be used as an inner lining or an outer protective layer to prolong the life of the sink. Water tanks made of cement, stainless steel, and iron require a substrate, because it will reduce the probability that the original cement may seep into water, as well as reduce the impact of temperature and rust.

Recirculation system

In a recirculation system, the emphasis is on keeping the water flowing and maintaining good water quality, so a set of long, narrow ditches or fish ponds are built to introduce a steady source of water. The special circulatory system and shape make the water flow strong and uninterrupted, and aquatic animals and plants can maintain a healthy state in it. The use of waterproof membrane, with the advancement of various construction techniques, can not only stably fit the shape of the waterway, but also isolate various pollution effects through the underground soil and water sources, so that the entire circulatory system maintains a state of high-quality water quality.

Concrete structure

Cement-constructed retaining walls and ponds are commonly used in commercial aquaculture, and few materials can match cement in terms of durability, strength, and cost. However, the cement itself still has a certain water seepage rate, but in the state without an insulating layer, the cement is actually very porous, and it will lose a lot of water after long-term use. Therefore, waterproof membranes are now also used on the surface of the pool to control leakage and loss.

The application of waterproof membranes in aquaculture also has many related functions, which will be explained in the next blog.
